breakthrough bleeding while on pill

I started taking the pill about 4 months ago to stop severe periods. for the first time, I started getting brownish light bleeding over a week ago. this was accompanied by lower abdominal cramps. although these cramps are easily managed with a single panadol, it is becoming inconvenient now. after a few days of light bleeding, I looked into what else could be triggering the bleeding. I have been taking Krill oil tabs, st johns wort, and iron. so, I stopped the first 2, recognising that these could have started the bleeding. my cramps have subsided somewhat but still the light bleeding remains. I am considering just going off the pill and getting a proper period and starting fresh in a couple of months????

try to stop the pill first for a few months and ask your gyne about other options for birth control or for stopping your severe period.
