11 year old daughter has period for over 2 weeks

My daughter is 11 years old, and started her period about a year and a half ago. She was getting her period about every 2 weeks, so we had bloodwork done. It showed that she had hypothyroidism. After starting a low dose of Synthroid, it regulated her thyroid, and there were no more problems. She no longer takes the Synthroid because her levels are all normal now. Her periods have been normal up until this last one. She has been bleeding for almost three weeks now. It's heavy enough that she has to wear a pad, and changes it a few times a day. No crampping or pain. I took her to our family Dr. and they suggested Provera 5mg for 5 days....which is half the dose they normally give since she is only 11. They suggested maybe taking her to the gyne....but she is so embarrassed about all this because she started her period so young and very uncomfortable even talking about it. I don't want to traumatize her. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
