Another New Year’s Resolution Bites the Dust

You’re at the end of the first month of your New Year’s Resolution to make 2008 your fittest year yet! You’ve been to the gym five days a week and you’ve been watching every morsel that passes your lips. Things have been going along pretty well. Then…yesterday morning when the alarm rang and you knew it was time to pile your sleepy body into the car and head to the gym, you rolled over and went back to sleep. Later in the day myriad excuses flooded your brain to support going AWOL from fitness. And to whom were you going to plead your case? Who’s judging you?

It happens. We start strong and then we lose momentum. For some of us, it isn’t long before we throw our hands up in despair and cry, “Woe is me, I am undone!” It can be challenging to maintain a rigorous regime and we can put ourselves into a bind by being overly aggressive in our approach, wanting and expecting things to change rapidly. Remember, it took longer than a few weeks to attain the level of health arrived at in December of last year, and it will take a while to get to where we want to be.

Regain your Momentum

Here are some ideas to keep things in motion when we’d rather sleep:

* Assess your workout plan and make some changes to make it more “you-ser” friendly. Your workout should be designed for your body and your goals.

* Ensure that you have a healthy eating plan. Placing unrealistic expectations by being unaware of our particular body’s needs is common. Get some professional guidance – it can help.

* Find a friend with similar goals so you can keep each other accountable and motivated. Some things are better done with others than alone.

Remember, patience and persistence pay off!
