Have Split Ends? Worry No More

Wondering why you're hair doesn't look at its best? It may be because of split ends caused by excessive drying or brushing. Splits can make your hair strands split into two or three strands, making your hair go coarse at the tips.

Why do the ends of your hair split?

The ends of your hair split when the protective cuticle of your hair has been stripped away. Excessive blow drying, flat ironing, and rigorous brushing are common culprits of split ends.

How can you get rid of split ends?

The best way to treat the coarse and separated tips of your hair is by sniping the dead ends off. If you can't squeeze in a trip to your salon every two months for whatever reason, don't worry. Because, you can easily trim your split ends yourself. But if you doubt your hairstyling talent you should leave it to the professionals.

Hair Care Tips

After trimming off your dead ends you can improve the condition of your hair by following these simple tips:

  • On wet hair, gently comb with a wide-teeth comb to prevent breaking your hair because wet hair is more susceptible to tearing. On dry hair, use a wide brush with a form pad. Avoid using brushes with plastic bristle on any hair type.
  • To avoid shampooing your hair every day, simply massage your scalp with your fingers in the shower. Apply a conditioner on the ends on your hair and rinse.
  • It's essential to protect your hair when heat-styling. Apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair, and keep the blow dryer at least 4 inches away from your hair.
  • Regularly trim your hair every six to eight weeks to keep the ends of the hair from splitting. Never let a stylist use a razor to feather your hair because razors can damage the ends of your hair.

Above all, be gentle with you hair. You hair, like your skin is sensitive to heat changes and gooey products. It's best to stick to natural shampoos and avoid using plastic or metal clips that can easily break your hair when you pull it back. Instead use stretchable fabric elastic and avoid drying out your hair by regularly heat-styling it. Don't forget to treat your hair to a deep conditioner twice a week to keep your hair looking shiner and healthier.
